Put your hat in the ring, your name in the sweepstake. On Thursday evening former Central Michigan standout wide out Dallas Dixon declared for the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City on April 27-29. Dixon is the sixth Chippewa to declare for the draft and joins running back Lew Nichols III, wide out Carlos Carriere, defensive lineman Thomas Incoom, tight end Joel Wilson and cornerback Ronald Kent Jr.

Dixon had a big 2021 season, yet was sidelined for the 2022 season in just the second game with a shoulder injury. In 2021 the third-team All-MAC selection caught 45 passes for 701 yards and eight touchdowns. He caught at least one pass in all 13 games in 2021.   When it comes to quarterbacks, the transfer portal giveth and the transfer portal taketh away. The Iowa football team gained two quarterbacks from the portal and lost two quarterbacks to the portal. The turnover, along with Spencer Petras' shoulder injury, means Iowa's quarterback room will look significantly different in 2023. Gone: Alex Padilla and Carson May were Iowa's two departures via the transfer portal at quarterback. Padilla appeared in 13 games in an Iowa uniform since 2020 and completed 49 percent of his passes while throwing three touchdowns and four interceptions. May, a true freshman, did not see any game action in his lone season in Iowa City.

Who is back: Joe Labas is expected to return for his sophomore year after making his collegiate debut in the 2022 Music City Bowl. Labas went 14-for-24 with one touchdown and no interceptions despite practicing almost exclusively on the scout team until bowl prep began. Spencer Petras is staying with the Hawkeyes at least through the spring as he rehabs his shoulder. He tore his rotator cuff and labrum in his throwing shoulder in Iowa's Nov. 25 loss to Nebraska. - The Gazette

Central Michigan freshman Bert Emanuel Jr. turned in the best rushing performance by a quarterback in three years when he ran for 293 yards against Buffalo in only his second collegiate game. The Chippewas' coaching staff had wanted to give some playing time to Emanuel, who can play up to four games and still preserve his redshirt. He ran 24 times and finished with 30 snaps in relief of Daniel Richardson in the 31-27 win Wednesday. Of his 293 yards, 274 came in the second half, and he scored on runs of 75, 87 and 1 yards. Emanuel's rushing total was highest by a quarterback since Navy's Malcolm Perry amassed 304 yards on 29 carries against Army in 2019. The week's only other 200-yard game was by Oklahoma's Eric Gray, who went for 211 on 25 carries against West Virginia. - AP College Football

NOV 14 MAC WEST DIVISION OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bert Emanuel, Jr., Central Michigan, QB, Freshman, Houston, Texas,...Quarterback Bert Emanuel rushed for 293 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries for a 12.2 yards per carry average. The 293 yards rank as the fourth most rushing yards in a single game in school history and set a school-record for most single-game rushing yards by a quarterback in school history. The last time a Chippewa player rushed for 200 or more yards was Lew Nichols (219 yards) at Ball State on Nov. 17, 2021. Emanuel became the first player in college football this year to notch two runs of 75 yards or more.

He registered the longest run of his career, a 75-yard touchdown run up the middle on the first play of the second half, then he backed that up with an 87-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter. The scores marked Emanuel's first and second career touchdown runs and were both Central Michigan's longest runs and offensive plays of the year. Emanuel scored a career-high three touchdowns on the day with runs of 75, 87 and the game-winning touchdown, a 1-yard run with 7:29 to play. The last time a player scored three touchdowns in a game was Lew Nichols at Ball State on Nov. 17, 2021. With Emanuel's 293-yard day, Central Michigan has now had a quarterback rush for over 100 yards in consecutive games (Jace Bauer, 109, vs. Bowling Green; Jace Bauer, 109 yards at Northern Illinois, and Emanuel, 293 yards vs. Buffalo). - MAC Football

Freshman quarterback Bert Emanuel Jr. rushed for 293 yards and the first three touchdowns of his career as Central Michigan rallied from a 17-point deficit to beat Buffalo 31-27 on Wednesday night. Emanuel, who saw his first game action the week before as part of a three-quarterback rotation, ran for a 75-yard touchdown on the Chippewas' first play from scrimmage in the the second half and tied the game at 24-all late in third quarter on an 87-yard run. On that run, he was pulled down on top of another Bulls defender but regained his footing before spinning away and taking off for the end zone. His 1-yard score midway through the fourth quarter gave Central Michigan (4-6, 3-3 Mid-American Conference) the lead.

Emanuel's 293 yards came on 24 carries in the absence of leading rusher Lew Nichols III, who missed the game with a toe injury. Cole Snyder was 19-of-32 for 191 yards with an interception for Buffalo (5-5, 4-2). Ron Cook ran for 100 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown. The Bulls had 204 yards rushing in the first half but just 36 in the second. Buffalo's Shaun Dolac, the nation’s leader with 68 solo tackles, added nine more, though Wednesday he was bested by Central Michigan’s Thomas Incoom, who had 10. Alex McNulty kicked two field goals to become Buffalo’s single-season record holder with 18. - Central Michigan/AP College Football

Thomas Incoom scooped up a loose ball and went 63 yards unimpeded to score the winning touchdown with 1:50 to play, lifting Central Michigan to a shocking 28-21 win over Akron on Saturday. The Zips had tied the score with a quick 78-yard drive, and after forcing a three-and-out were driving to the potential win when quarterback DJ Irons and running back Clyde Price III had a miscommunication on an option sweep to the left. When it hit the turf, Incoom was the only one close and had no trouble racing down the left sideline to the end zone.

On the final possession, the Central Michigan (2-5, 1-2 Mid-American Conference) defense had two of their eight sacks and Akron (1-6, 0-3) had an incompletion on fourth-and-25 to lose its sixth-straight game. After Irons raced 53 yards for a touchdown on the third play of the game, Central Michigan scored three straight touchdowns. Daniel Richardson connected with Marion Lukes for a 37-yard score and Lukes also had touchdown runs of 1 and 9 yards, the long one on a fake field goal. Lukes rushed 26 times for 160 yards and had four receptions for 71. Richardson was 13 of 21 for 138. Irons finished 25-of-38 passing for 255 yards and ran for 67 yards but lost 55 in the seven times he was sacked. - Central Michigan/AP College Football

Lew Nichols III ran for 166 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns and Central Michigan dominated Bucknell in a 41-0 win on Saturday. Nichols has led Central Michigan in rushing in 10 of its last 11 games. Nichols scored twice in the second quarter on runs of 3 and 15 yards for a 20-0 Central Michigan advantage before halftime. The Chippewas got on the board when Daniel Richardson threw 10-yard touchdown to Joel Wilson to end a 12-play, 80-yard drive. Richardson threw for 198 yards and two touchdowns, and in a reserve role after Richardson's departure, Jase Bauer ran for two scores from 10 and 8 yards out. Ethan Grady threw for 96 yards for Bucknell (0-3). - Central Michigan/AP College Football
